Both this shell’s wad and tube are made out of biopolymer, which is strong and lightweight like plastic but also made out of plants. If either of those components lies on the ground for a while – or even sits underwater – microbes are going to break them down into natural materials. The decomposition process takes about two years, so you may still want to snag your empty shells, but you no longer have to think about all your wads sitting around polluting the environment.

BioAmmo loaded this particular plastic-free shotshell with #4 lead shot. That’s a classic choice for gobblers! It could also be used to hunt pheasant. These shells also offer good accuracy, because their shot pellets are hyper-spherical and their primers and powder charges are so consistently loaded. This shell’s compostable wad also compresses during ignition to spare you a little felt recoil. Good for the environment and your shoulder!
