Federal Premium is something of a shotshell virtuoso. Do you know why different gauges have different colors – e.g. yellow for 20, and purple for 16? That was Federal’s doing. When the Minnesotan company sets out to create the ideal shell for clays, you can rest assured they know what they’re doing.

This is a High Over All shell, and quite a soft kicking one at that. Between its single ounce of shot and mild 1,200 fps muzzle velocity, you’re assured a pretty agreeable kick upon squeezing the trigger. Perceived recoil is dampened either further by the shell’s Podium wad, which cushions 350 hard, high-antimony lead #7.5 shot pellets. The pellets are fully equipped to leap out the muzzle undeformed and carry on downrange in an impressively tight pattern.

A High Over All shell continues to impress after it has been emptied. Between its easily reformed pure brass head and single-piece plastic hull’s compatibility with an impressive variety of wads, this round is a joy to reload.
