Federal didn’t load this round with an unusually hot charge of powder. They just loaded it with 1 oz. of shot instead of 1-1/8 oz. The #8 shot pellets are only 0.090” in diameter, however, so the shell’s pattern is still plenty dense at 410 individual beads. Federal also uses rigid lead to make Top Gun shot, so the pellets will retain the spherical shape which lends itself to the establishment and maintenance of a narrower pattern.
