This shell’s shot column weighs approximately 0.27 ounces less than if it were loaded with nine pellets of double-aught. That’s why it boasts lower recoil, which will help you line up accurate follow-up shots more quickly during a stressful situation. The #1 buck pellet also weighs about 25% less than a double-aught, which is why it reaches a close-range target with less momentum – excellent if you’re concerned about over-penetration that could jeopardize bystanders.

Is this shell weak? Hardly. Its effect is similar to shooting a target nine times with a 22 LR rifle – simultaneously, of course – although the wound channels it inflicts are around 0.08” wider. Truly, one well-placed shot with this shell would stop any threat wherever it once stood.
