12 GAUGE FIOCCHI 2-3/4" 9 PELLETS #1 BUCKSHOT (80 ROUNDS IN FIELD BOX)
Did you think that nickel is only useful for making coins? That’s a fair assumption – BUT IT IS WRONG. Nickel is also useful for plating buckshot pellets! Once a lead orb is ensconced in nickel, it becomes harder. A harder lead orb remains more spherical while it is rapidly accelerated, which secures a narrower and more effective pattern. It also stays rounder while it’s plowing through soft tissue, which secures deeper penetration. This 12 Gauge shell’s #1 buckshot pellets? That’s right: they’re plated with nickel!
Fiocchi’s choice to load this shell with #1 buck (which is 0.03” smaller in diameter and therefore 13.3 grains lighter than 00 buck) makes perfect sense. Its nine-pellet column weighs significantly less because of it, which translates to appreciably lighter recoil. That’s perfect if you’re training a younger shooter, nursing a shoulder injury, or attempting to minimize muzzle flip so you can fire more accurate follow-up shots.
We wouldn’t call this ammo weak, though. Its 3-1/4 dram equivalent means it should have the juice to cycle a semi-auto, and its 364.5 grain shot column has a combined muzzle energy of 1,421 ft lbs – more powerful than any 223 Rem bullet!
