This shell isn’t a heavy kicker. At 1-1/8 ounces and 1,145 fps, its shot column weight and muzzle velocity are both due to deliver acceptably gentle recoil. Winchester’s AA wad also does a fine job of reducing felt recoil by collapsing inward during ignition.

This ammo’s #8 shot pellets are made of lead alloy with 6% antimony. Such high antimony content makes the spheres tough enough to endure acceleration without flattening down – but it doesn’t rob them of the density they need to strike clay with gusto.
