"What in Tarnation?" This may be the question you asked yourself when you saw that this 20 Gauge shotshell is loaded with #2 buckshot. We won’t ask why you speak like an 1880s gold prospector; we will only explain why this shotshell by Aguila rules for hunting deer and predators and also excels at home defense applications.

This shell is not loaded with #2 shot, which is 0.15” in diameter. It is loaded with #2 buckshot, which is 0.27” in diameter. Compared to 00 buck – the most popular size of buckshot – the #2 buck pellet is only 82% as wide in diameter and 55% as heavy in weight. Its smaller size is the reason why this shell stores 14 shot pellets, which is more than a 00 buck shell of the same size could store. Its smaller size is also why a #2 buck pellet doesn’t hit as hard downrange. In short, you get a denser albeit weaker pattern that’s less likely to over-penetrate a threat.

It’s still a powerful shotshell, though. Each pellet of #2 buck has a muzzle energy of approximately 97 ft lbs, which multiplied by 14 is certain to leave quite the mark on your target.
