It’s optimal for any semi-auto firearm given its ability to feed without jamming as well as slide down a barrel without depositing a lot of lead residue in the rifling. The FMJ’s inability to expand inside soft tissue means it’s not the best solution for home defense (although it will in fact fragment inside its target at close-to-medium range), but its sleek profile delivers the flat, wind resilient trajectory that lends itself perfectly to precision shooting.
