Many 243 Win soft point rounds are built for deer hunting, but this one doesn’t reliably penetrate a medium-size animal far enough to make it a great choice for whitetail. In true varmint bullet fashion, the JSP begins undergoing rapid expansion as soon as it pierces a varmint’s pelt. The bullet’s expansion is almost grenade-like, as it sends out jagged shrapnel every which way.

This round’s JSP weighs 80 grains. That puts it on the heavy side for a 243 varmint bullet. It’ll still give you a favorably flat trajectory, as well as a little bit better wind resistance than a lighter bullet.
