Some folks need lead-free bullets for varmint hunting in a certain state. Others want them because they’re trying to reduce their impact on the environment – not tree huggers per se, since they are varmint hunting, but eco-conscious all the same. Fortunately, Hornady invented the non-lead NTX projectile for both of these customers!This BLACK label 300 AAC Blackout cartridge is armed with Hornady’s 110 grain .30 cal NTX. Instead of lead, its core is made of frangible copper alloy. This enables the core to essentially turn into powder when it strikes soft tissue. But thanks to its thin AMP jacket and polymer tip’s long tail, the NTX’s core is capable of reacting to impact by delivering massive fragmentation.
The NTX wouldn’t let you down if you were only looking for an accurate bullet, either. Upon exiting a 16” barrel’s muzzle at 2,070 fps velocity, the NTX achieves a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.272. Centered up 1.5”, the NTX will reach 200 yards with approximately 575 ft lbs of energy and then proceed to drop around -19.5” at 300 yards.
