You can miss a several hundred yard target with any old ammunition, but to actually hit it? For that you need a tack driver like this 308 Win round by Hornady.

This cartridge features its manufacturer’s proprietary 168 grain hollow point boat tail projectile. It begins simply as an Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, which you’d need a microscope and the patience of a saint to find any flaws in. The AMP jacket is then filled with a swaged lead core for superlative balance in flight. The AMP’s secant ogive profile creates very little drag in flight, as does its carefully angled boat tail. The end result is a target shooting projectile with an 0.450 ballistic coefficient, letting it retain approximately two thirds of its initial velocity 500 yards downrange.

This match round’s bullet is seated in the best chunk of brass that Hornady can draw and taper, one which chambers seamlessly and deserves reloading once emptied. Hornady’s propellant and primer are both carefully engineered to guarantee the same 2,700 fps muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel with every drop of the firing pin.
