Here is a 357 Magnum cartridge that Secret Agent Robert McCall most certainly would have found useful during his dangerous line of work. It is Doubletap’s “Equalizer,” which strikes its target with two very different projectiles!

The first projectile to strike the target is a 125 grain jacketed hollow point. According to the manufacturer, it penetrates ordnance gelatin to a depth of 11.5” and expands to a diameter of 0.64” (when fired from a snub nose revolver with a 2” barrel). The second projectile to strike is a 70 grain disc, which is made of lead with a deformation resistant solid copper base. It penetrates to a depth of 17.5” – substantially deeper, because it does not expand at all. The two projectiles hit about 1” apart from one another at close range; at long range, the disc’s ballistically inefficient profile may cause it to miss the target entirely.

Doubletap recorded this round’s 1,145 fps muzzle velocity with an S&W 686 (6” barrel). You can reasonably expect a 1,100 fps muzzle velocity with a 4” barrel, or a 990 fps muzzle velocity with a 1-7/8” barrel.
