About This Norma 38 Special Ammunition

Norma of Sweden is best known for their magnum rifle cartridges: 300, 308, 338 and 358. But Norma also does great work whenever they load the much smaller 38 Special! This ammo is suitable for personal protection no matter which kind of revolver you’re packing, and it’s equally reliable in semi-auto handguns and lever-action rifles as well!

Norma loads this round with a jacketed hollow point of their own creation. It is designed to expand as it bores through soft tissue, which it does extra reliably owing to the symmetrical skives pressed into its jacket around the rim of its nose cavity. These impressions selectively weaken the jacket, enabling it to peel backward until it has settled into a uniform diameter mushroom.

This cartridge’s bullet weighs 158 grains. At that weight the round’s 968 fps muzzle velocity does not make it overpressure.

Norma bills their brass cases as the world’s most reliable, and we’ve found no reason to disagree. This is foreign-made ammo, but Norma still uses the Boxer primers handloaders need in order to practice their art.
