At 300 grains, this round’s bullet is relatively light for the 45-70. That amplifies its muzzle velocity to 1,900 fps, which in turn gives it a 0.185 G1 ballistic coefficient that delivers approximately 1,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy to a target at 200 yards. The bullet is a hollow point flat nose – essentially a semi-jacketed hollow point with a broad nose profile that (A) is safe for a lever-action’s tubular magazine, and (B) punches a wide wound into the target on impact. The lead core’s unrestricted hollow point nose cavity unleashes massive expansion as it plows through muscle tissue. A deer’s worst nightmare!
