The Hornady FTX bullet is designed to provide spitzer ballistics in lever-action rifles while still loading and cycling safely in tubular magazines. Hornady states (tongue in cheek) that this renders all other lever-action loads "pointless!"

This .45 Colt ammunition comes in 20 round boxes and uses the FTX. It is suitable for both rifles and revolvers; when fired from a 20" rifle barrel, these rounds achieve a muzzle velocity of about 1,000 feet per second. Revolvers deliver a slightly lower muzzle velocity of about 960 fps.

The FTX is a polymer-tipped hollow point bullet suitable for hunting. In addition to its soft polymer tip, it features a mechanical locking ring to prevent core-jacket separation and a boat-tailed profile for enhanced wind resistance (and therefore accuracy)

Hornady ammunition is loaded in Grand Island, Nebraska using non-corrosive Boxer primers and brass cases.
