Enter this interesting 5.56x45 cartridge from Federal’s American Eagle line of ammunition. The core of its 50 grain projectile is frangible, and will disintegrate upon impact to virtually eliminate the odds of hazardous splash-back putting a sour spin on your range day. Cleverly, Federal gave this bullet a partial jacket, technically making it a soft point. That strengthens the bullet so it will reliably weather feeding in a semi-automatic rifle.

This round was manufactured at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, and thus includes the military-grade brass casing that handloaders like to have in good supply. Its primer is also non-toxic, suiting it especially well for practice at indoor ranges where you’d rather not become enveloped in noxious gasses. The bullet is similarly free of lead, so you can breathe easy with this round in your magazine.
