About This Wolf 5.56x45mm Ammunition
This 5.56x45 cartridge by Wolf Gold features a 62 grain FMJ projectile. But as an M855 (aka SS109, or penetrator), the bullet’s green-painted tip indicates that it contains a seven grain bolt of lead. This strengthens the bullet to facilitate the penetration of sheet metal. Because its bullet can reliably bust through a 1/8” layer of steel over a range of about 2,000 yards, this round is excellent for defense against threats taking cover in or behind vehicles, as well as simple target practice at the range. Naturally you won’t want to bring this ammo to ranges that ban magnetic ammo, though.Made in Taiwan, Gold ammo differs from Wolf’s usual fare owing to its new production brass case. This round’s case may be headstamped “223 Rem,” although it is in fact a 5.56, and if you notice discoloration around its neck that’s only because it’s properly annealed, not used. This round is even better for handloading courtesy of its non-corrosive Boxer primer, and Wolf’s propellant burns clean to keep an AR-15 shipshape.
