7.62X51 WINCHESTER SERVICE GRADE 175 GRAIN HPBT MATCHKING M118LR (20 ROUNDS)
Don’t look at its alien-sounding M118LR designation and brush this 7.62x51 ammunition off as something highly specialized that you won’t be able to use. This is the U.S. Armed Forces’ own sniping ammunition! While you’re unlikely to deal with very distant threats to your personal safety, you can certainly have fun pegging very distant targets at the rifle range. This Winchester Service Grade cartridge showcases what the Sierra MatchKing can do. The 175 grain HPBT has an extremely narrow tip, evenly distributed lead core and precision drawn copper jacket, and long, tapering base that all add up to a ballistic coefficient of 0.496. A bullet like that doesn’t become subsonic until it has flown farther than 1,100 yards, only has to arc by about 6” to hit a 300 yard target, and does a great job at brushing off wind deflection as well.
True to its name, Service Grade ammunition is loaded with military-grade brass, primers and propellant. Fire this nonmagnetic ammo wherever you please, and keep its cases for yourself or someone else who handloads!
In case you’re unsure, 7.62x51 is perfectly safe to fire in 308 Win rifles. The military’s 7.62x51 has virtually identical dimensions to the commercial 308 – it’s just loaded to a slightly lower pressure. And although it is technically a hollow point, the MatchKing does not expand and is not recommended for hunting applications.
