Every cartridge has its own very subtle nuances when it comes to its performance. In a perfect world, you would be able to train with the same ammunition that you would implement for self-defense in order to best prepare yourself for a fight, and doing so wouldn’t be prohibitively expensive. (Well, in an absolutely perfect world self-defense ammunition arguably wouldn’t even exist, but we digress.) This 9mm cartridge by Federal is about as close to a perfect world as we’re going to get, because it’s affordable without compromising its terminal performance.This round sports a relatively heavy 147 grain Hi-Shok projectile. The Hi-Shok is very much like Federal’s more modern Hydra-Shok, but it lacks the little post in its nose cavity that protects it from clogging during penetration. Still, the Hi-Shok’s terminal effect is certainly capable of toppling even the most tenacious threats, and it runs smoothly in a semi-automatic thanks to its profile. This cartridge includes Federal’s own brass casing, which is durable enough to be reloaded on multiple occasions, as well as a non-corrosive Boxer primer.
