In a perfect world, ammunition that is solely designed for self-defense wouldn’t exist. But in the real world, you may very well one day need Federal Premium’s Personal Defense HST 9mm +P ammunition.

This is an overpressure cartridge, which produces higher-than-standard chamber pressure to give its 124 grain bullet a fast 1,200 fps muzzle velocity out of a pistol’s 4” barrel. That means more recoil, but it also means the bullet will conserve more than sufficient energy for personal defense applications at ranges well beyond 50 yards. That comes with one important caveat: This ammo will damage your handgun and may injure you if you fire it in a handgun that is not rated for +P.

Federal’s HST jacketed hollow point is a finely tuned bullet. It feeds with extreme efficiency, delivers great accuracy, and keeps its nose cavity unobstructed as it passes through a variety of urban barriers. The HST bullet is also tough, with the ability to retain over 90 percent of its weight after passing through thick clothing, sheet metal, wall board or plywood. That means it retains the momentum it needs to penetrate to an effective depth for personal protection.
