About This Speer 9mm Luger Ammunition
Speer Gold Dots are a leading brand of carry ammunition for police forces due to their real world track record of stopping assailants quickly. They are also widely carried for self-defense by citizens for the same reason. These 9mm Luger cartridges are a +P load that fires a medium weight 124 grain Gold Dot bonded core hollow point bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1,220 feet per second. This results in performance that balances penetration, expansion, and recoil well.Gold Dot bullets are molecularly bonded for extreme resistance to core-jacket separation. Each bullet is optimized for its caliber and pressure rating. Speer cartridges are loaded in Lewiston, Idaho using non-corrosive Boxer primers and nickel-plated brass cases. The primers are manufactured by Speer's sister company CCI, which is known for the reliability of its components.
These 50 round "LE" boxes are a convenient way to stock up on defensive ammo and test it in your carry pistol. Thanks to the sheer number of Gold Dots made and sold every year, they're also relatively affordable.

Great ammo, except NOT for the Gen 5 Glock 17

Posted onThis ammo runs great in all my Glocks EXCEPT my G17 gen 5. I get failure to feed issues every couple mags, which is a nonstarter for self defense ammo. G17 Gen 4 feeds it consistently with NO issues. I;ve shot more than 500 rounds of this in each pistol. My sense is that the different bullet shape and the Gen 5's tighter tolerances are to blame. The G17 Gen 5 handles all my other range and defensive ammo (including Lawman) with no issues -- Golden Saber, HST, etc. But the 124 grain Gold Dot in the Glock 17 Gen 5 is a no go for me.

Posted onI was gifted 300 rounds of this ammo and I am impressed. I cannot afford all the ballistic gel stuff but I did get to see how this round performs on a pork blade roast that had a bit of freezer burn and..........well, the results were amazing with the expected shattering of the blade bone but the massive tissue disruption.....it made a +P Freedom Munitions XTP +P124 grain load look like.....a .22WMR in comparison.
It isnt the least expensive ammo out there but effectively it may very well be the best self defense ammo out there. I just wish Ammoman would run it on sale so I could lay in a couple thousand rounds. -
Great ammo! Accurate with good penetration. Burns clean and hot down range.
